In essence, Stirling was exclusively a landscape painter, who devoted his entire career capturing in spring, summer, fall and winter the mountains, valleys, rivers and aspens of Colorado in oil on canvas and artist's board, especially Estes Park, where he maintained a home and studio. Stirling's work is in the collections of Estes Park Museum and Sangre De Cristo Arts Center, both of Colorado.
