Note 1) The following biographical
materials are taken from the Askart.com website:
"During World War I, George Warren Lawlor (1878-1932) was
assigned to camouflage in Philadelphia on May 15, 1918, and was subsequently
named Chief Camoufleur for the ship painting operations on Hog Island in the
Delaware River District. He resigned on November 21, 1918.

Delaware" in Philadelphia in the World War 1914-1919. NY: Philadelphia War
History Committee 1922 (pp. 318-322)."
Submitted by Roy R. Behrens.
Note 2) Auction
records regarding Lawlor sales warrant the conclusion that the presale estimate
of $150-$250 is reasonable and justifiable. The highest auction price ever paid
for a Lawlor oil painting was $1,495 on 5/10/2008. No Lawlor watercolors have
been offered at auction.
