Urn-form brass finials cresting swan-neck pediment; single door with eglomise panel below opens to Arabic numeral chapter ring and to hand painted floral spandrels; flanked by Doric columns; double-ogee apron on straight bracket feet - 31 in. x 17 1/2 in. x 4 1/2 in. Seth Thomas worked for Eli Terry from 1807-1810, after which time Thomas purchased the Terry shop and produced pillar-and-scroll clocks in the style of his master 1810-1830. The pillar-and-scroll case dates to the early 19th century and the brass movement after 1842.
We believe that, when the original wooden mechanism started loosing time, the owner probably returned to the Terry/Seth shop from which he originally purchased the clock to have it reconditioned. As brass works were becoming more common, the original wooden works would have been discarded.
