JAPANESE BLACK LACQUERED WOOD SHRINE, Meiji period. With two doors opening on a gilt standing figure of Buddha on a double lotus plinth - 9 in. high.
Estimate $350-450

PROVENANCE: Estate of Winston Churchill, acquired from family member in St. John's Island, Canada

The black lacquer shrine has some minute chips on edges and dent. The celestial scarf and right hand finger with a few very minute chips. The aureole has a small piece missing at the top and the gold decoration too. A piece of wood is missing in between the lotus plinth.
