DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (American, 1890-1969). LANDSCAPE WITH MOUNTAINS AND LAKE, signed lower right. Oil on panel - 16 in. x 20 in.
Estimate $8,000-12,000

Inscribed on the reverse: "This original Eisenhower painting was given to Captain Edward L. Beach, U.S.N. by President Eisenhower in 1956. I was Naval Aide to the President at the time, and he painted this expressly for me. It is my understanding the scene is from life, at the ranch of a friend (Axel Nielson) in Colorado. The peak with the two spots of snow is supposed to be very well known.
For 7 years this painting hung in my office as Staff Director of the U.S. Senate Republican Policy Committee 1969-77. Edward L. Beach"

Estate of Edward Latimer Beach, Captain US Navy. Beach served as Naval Aide to President Eisenhower from 1953 to 1957, and acheived the rank of Captain during that time in 1956. In 1955 he wrote the best selling novel Run Silent, Run Deep, which became a major motion picture in 1958 starring Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster.

In 1960, on the USS Triton, he commanded the first circumnavigation of the earth in a nuclear-powered submarine over the span of 84 days. Over the course of his naval career, he was awarded a Navy Cross, two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, and two Bronze Stars.
