LINCOLN RELIC, STRANDS FROM A LOCK OF HIS HAIR. The lock removed by surgeons to access the bullet wound to his head, and given later by Mrs. Lincoln to Dr. Charles Sabin Taft, one of the attending surgeons, as a memento after Lincon's death. Six strands of the lock were given by Taft's son, Charles C. Taft, in 1905 to John Hay, who gave it in a ring to Theodore Roosevelt. The remainder of the lock, and other relics collected by Dr. Taft were purchased from his son by William H. Lambert, whose estate was sold in 1908 by Anderson Galleries. The lock was purchased by Henry C. Hines, who sealed the lock in a gold case, which reappeared in 1993 in the estate of an acquaintance. Presented in a laminatad sleeve, with photocopies of images, and of related letters, Anderson Gallery sale notices, newspaper articles, etc. Estimate $1,000-2,000
