BRAZILIAN FETISH SCULPTURES. A pair of metal fetish sculptures from Bahia, Salvador, northern Brazil.

Such objects are believed to possess spiritual or protective powers as they are often crafted to embody spirits or serve as conduits for spiritual forces. The sculptures, with their stylized features and one holding an implement, are consistent with descriptions of fetish objects. The standing male figure (right) has long extended legs, an erect phallus, and a long tail which reaches the ground while holding a trident in his right hand.
