BURKINA FASO BURA CULTURE TERRACOTTA FUNERARY HEAD. Terracotta funerary head from the Bura culture in the Niger River valley of Niger and Burkina Faso. These heads were often placed atop burial urns. The Bura people were sedentary agriculturists who buried their dead in tall, conical urns. The function of these urns is not fully understood, but they are often decorated with incised and stamped patterns. Bura heads typically have an elongated, phallic form and are made of terracotta. - Height: 8 inches (including base).
