CONGOLESE BAKONGO WHISTLE. Congolese whistle, specifically identified as a 'Bakongo' whistle from Congo. It is crafted from solid wood and dates back to the early 20th century. Similar African hunting whistles were traditionally used for sending messages through coded signals, akin to the use of drums for communication.

Note: Consignor acquired it at the Hemingway African Gallery (NYC). Handwritten notation confirms it was sourced from the collection of a Willie Marcus, Ambassador in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo.
