CONGOLESE PENDE MBUYA MASK. Traditional mask from the village of Mbuya used to entertain a community during non-ritual festivals. Previously, used during mukanda initiation ceremonies to mark the end of male circumcision rituals, mbuya masquerades are now used to showcase a number of characters and roles in Hanging society. It is a monoxyl piece. The raffia headdress is still present. The elongated nose is slightly turned up. - Height 10 inches. Estimate $100-120
