CONGOLESE PENDE PEOPLE MBUYA KIYOWO MASK. Pende Mbuya Kiyowo wooden mask are used in community festivals and masquerades. They represent various characters and roles within Pende society and were historically used in Mukanda initiation ceremonies, marking the end of male circumcision rituals. Mask features a long "beard" or neck, decorated with geometric patterns, and stylized facial features including heavy-lidded eyes.
