Sale 205 Lot 1286

LEON BERKOWITZ (American, 1911 - 1987). Algonquit, 1985, Oil on canvas. Verso titled, signed and dated.

CONDITION REPORT: The degree of surface damage to the painting is, in our opinion, minor. The painting does not have any noticeable aging bulges, mold or mildew, cracks, blisters, cuts (or holes, punctures), dents (or dimples), repairs (or patches). The wooden stretcher bars (and its strainer) are stable and do not have any insect infestation. There are several surface abrasions to the upper left-hand corner and the lower right hand corner. There are two small dirt spots (which are either grime or water spots) to the painting's surface (lower right-hand corner) and there are several very small dark specks present to the lower right hand corner edge. Lastly, the painting's edges (left and right) present some color graduation but we are unsure if the artist intended it or if they are light abrasions of the canvas against existing stretcher bars.

This condition report is prepared by Sloans & Kenyon's specialists as a service to our clients. It reflects our opinion as to the condition of the lot in question but is not the result of an examination of the work by a professional restorer or conservator. In accordance with Sloans & Kenyon's Terms and Conditions of Sale printed in the catalogue, all lots are sold "As Is." We therefore suggest that prospective buyers inspect each lot to determine its condition and, when appropriate, consult with a professional restorer or conservator.
