NIGERIAN IGBO IZZI OGBODO ENYI HELMET MASK. Igbo Izzi Ogbodo Enyi helmet mask from Nigeria also known as an elephant spirit mask. These masks are used by the Izzi people, a subgroup of the Igbo, who live in the northeastern part of Igboland. The mask is made of wood and pigmented with white riverine clay, black charcoal, and orange-red camwood. It represents the elephant spirit, called Ogbodo Enyi, and is often used in ceremonies and performances. The mask features a long, trunk-like nose, suggesting the elephant, and sometimes includes a humanoid nose, indicating a composite human-animal representation. - Height approximately: 19 inches.
