THREE SMALL-SCALE FRENCH LITHOGRAPHIC POSTERS, 19TH / 20TH century. Set of these three French small-scale posters that illustrate the varied themes of labor, literature, and entertainment typical of late 19th and early 20th-century graphic art. The large horizontal poster promotes the "SYNDICAT CENTRAL DES AGRICULTEURS DE FRANCE" (Central Union of Farmers of France), depicting a strong, determined farming woman in a red bodice and a man with a pitchfork working in a field with a team of oxen, rendered in a solid, realist style that emphasizes the dignity and necessity of agricultural labor. The vertical poster on the right advertises "La Critique," directed by G. Bans, and features a soft, elegant, and contemplative image of a fashionable woman reading by a window, characteristic of the more subtle and romantic Art Nouveau styles used for literary or artistic journals. Finally, the narrow poster below promotes a work, likely a book or play, titled "ENTRÉE DE CLOWNESSE" by Félicien Champsaur, showing a striking, almost stylized figure of a woman in a black and red costume, adopting a dramatic pose associated with the circus or cabaret. Note: Unframed. None of the posters are laid down. All are mated. - various mat openings; approx: 9 x 12 inches; mat: 14 x 18 inches.
