De Glehn was an important British Impressionist painter of his day. He was a leading member of the Royal Academy and exhibited widely. Both he and his artist wife Jane Emmet were close personal friends of John Singer Sargent. The de Glehns traveled and painted all over Europe with Sargent. Some of Sargent's better known works depict the de Glehns.
