PLAINS INDIAN IRON TOMAHAWK, 19th/early 20th century, possibly Lakota, Sioux. With heart shaped cutout in iron blade and blade fitted to the wooden handle and pinned with metal piece, possibly iron or brass, at the very top of the handle. Blade further affixed to wood handle with leather straps, with piece of decorative protruding black horsehair or other animal fur held in place under the sinews, which are held in place by a large brass tack. Below the sinews and horsehair on the wood handle are 4 decorative large brass tacks. At the bottom of the handle are two large dark (black or deep blue) beads affixed thereto by leather sinews running through a hole in the bottom of the handle. - 18 in. long.
