Lois Mailou Jones (1905-1998) was a prominent African-American artist in the mid to late 20th century. In addition, Jones enjoyed a five-decade tenure at Howard University where she taught watercolor, design and drawing . In 1973 she became the first African American artist to be given a solo show at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Her paintings now can be found in the collections of many prominent museums.
