JAMES ABBOTT MCNEILL WHISTLER (American, 1834-1903). Reading by Lamplight, circa 1859, Etching and drypoint, printed in black ink on likely fine ivory oriental laid paper. Plate signed lower right in plate: "J. Whistler." With a verso (in 19th century handwriting) anotation: "Original Artist Proof Etching / Reading by Lamplight / by James McNeil Whistler." Print shows Whistler's half-sister, Deborah Delano Haden, née Whistler, reading at a table. Please note there is toning (yellowing or browing of the paper) likely due to mat burning as it is a non-acid free mat. Framed. Not examined out of frame. - Physical Dimensions: Plate: 6 1/4 × 4 5/8 in.; frame: 13 x 10.
