Adamson" and "Cikovsky P.M." which may indicate that the artist is Ms. Adamson who may have been a student of Mr. Cikovsky in his night art class ("P.M"). Mr. Cikovsky was an art instructor at Cincinnati Art Academy, Art Institute of Chicago, Art Students League, and Corcoran School of Art. There is no artist signature on the canvas. Unframed.
ARTIST PROFILE: Cikovsky's work is held at the Whitney, MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He also had three New Deal-era Treasury Section of Fine Arts commissions for public buildings: two murals at Maryland post offices and a set of the murals at the Interior Building in Washington, D.C. He published several pieces in proletarian (Communist) journals like New Masses and International Literature in the 1930s. He was a member of the John Reed Club and showed landscapes at the Whitney. Cikovsky was a resident at Yaddo in 1931. Cikovsky was one of the Soviet émigré painters who formed the Hampton Bays Art Group. He was a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters and the Society of Painter, Sculptors, and Engravers. In addition to his painting, Cikovsky served as an instructor at the Cincinnati Art Academy, Art Institute of Chicago, Art Students League, and Corcoran School of Art. - 24 x 30 inches Estimate $500-700
