AFTER ESTEBAN MURILLO (Spanish,17th century). The Christ Child and the Infant John the Baptist with a Shell, Early 20th century oil painting after the work of Spanish artist Bartolome Esteban Murillo which is not in the collection of the Prado Museum in Madrid. The artwork portrays the young Jesus Christ and John the Baptist as children, accompanied by a lamb, symbolizing Christ. Three cherubic figures are visible in the background. John the Baptist is shown holding a shell, which is the central element of the composition and alludes to his role in baptizing Jesus. The painting is characterized by soft, warm lighting and realistic depiction of the figures. Framed in an ornate gilt frame. - 34 x 47 inches; frame: 48 x 56 inches
