FRANCIS WAYLAND SPEIGHT (American, 1896-1989). FARMHOUSE IN SNAKEBITE, NC, LATE SUMMER/EARLY FALL, 1975, Signed lower right, and dated 1975. Oil on canvas. Painted in a semi-impressionistic manner, in a bright palette. Depicts a large farmhouse in a setting of tall trees with yellow leaves, with other dwellings in background; blue sky with scattered clouds. Framed. - 18 in. x 24 in. Sight size as framed, 17 1/2 in. x 23 1/2 in.

PROVENANCE: Received as a gift or as a purchase directly from the artist, who was a friend of the present owner's husband's family. The farmhouse depicted in the foreground of the painting belonged to the Speight family; the white house depicted in the center background was the house of Albert Valentine Cobb, the grandfather of the present owner's later husband.
