The work is a close-up portrait of a single figure's face with his or her identity obscured emphasizing their role as a representative of all "Emigrants." Created ih the aftermath of World War II, a time when massive populations across Europe were displaced and struggling to find a home, the work captures the existential uncertainty and the challenging conditions faced by emigrants or refugees of that era.
