MASSACHUSETTS MAHOGANY BANJO WALL CLOCK, 19th century, signed E. Howard & Co., Boston. Circular cove-molded glazed door opening to enameled clock face with Roman numerals, above graduating rectangular standard; similar reverse-glazed panel opening to pendulum. - 29 in. x 12 in. x 4 1/2 in.

Provenance: consigned by a direct descendant of Chief Justice John Marshall

The case is composed of walnut with traces of rosewood simulated graining. The clock appears with signed movement and face. The key, pendulum, weight and reverse-painted upper door are original to the piece. However, the lower reverse-painted door has been replaced. The red painted interior board has sustained a partial loss.
