NEW ENGLAND MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK. Circa 1810-20. Dial signed "Aaron Willard, Jr." (1783-1864) "Boston", and case with applied label of setting up directions, marked "no. 4 Aaron Willard, Jr. $28 (?)"; cream painted 12-inch iron dial black Roman hour markers, Arabic quarter hour markers, seconds dial below XII, calendar aperture above signature, gilt gesso and painted decorative spandrels, gilt bead surround; 29 1/2 day lunar moon dial in arch with Arabic markers, hand-painted depicting moon, tall ship flying American flag and agrarian scene; time and strike weight driven brass movement; wood pendulum rod with brass-faced bob; arched bonnet with possible alteration to pediment of hood, each side with free-standing metal mounted fluted column; mahogany and mahogany veneer rectangular waist door flanked by engaged fluted quarter columns, above box base; initials "A H" carved on interior backboard, "Anna S. Hemsley from Margaret H. Hemsley, her mother" in pencil; traditionally a tall case clock given as wedding present)
