'The Catesby plates are slightly reduced versions of the etchings appearing in Catesby's own Natural History of the Carolinas, Florida and Bahama Islands, first published in England between 1731-43. Based on first hand observation in the wild Catesby's work was the earliest volume with handcolored plates which focused on American birds. The plastes after George Edwards are slightly enlarged versions of the etchings appearing in his A Natural History of Uncommon Birds, published from 1743-51. In personal life, Edwards and Catesby were friends. Edwards published the second edition of Catesbys' work in 1754.' Estimate $400-500
