NOTE: Thomas W. Benton was known for his screen-printed political. Starting in 1968, he created campaign posters for more than 50 political candidates, including presidential hopefuls George McGovern and Gary Hart as well as scores of local office-seekers in his home base of Aspen, Colorado. Benton moved to Aspen in 1963 and quickly became involved in local politics. Intrigued by the rhetorical potential of combining text and images to convey political messages, he created his first anti-war poster in 1965. Throughout his life, Benton created prints and paintings that combined abstract elements with text and graphics.
