EGYPTIAN BLUE GLAZED FAIENCE SHABTI. Age unknown. Egyptian blue faience ushabti sculpted from faience & glazed/fired. The ushabti was a funerary figurine used in ancient Egyptian funerary practices. Shabtis were placed in tombs among the grave goods and were intended to act as servants or minions for the deceased. Shabtis look like human figures that have been mummified, usually with their arms crossed over their chest. The figurines had writing or hieroglyphs typically found on the legs. They carried inscriptions asserting their readiness to answer the gods' summons to work.
