JAPANESE ARITA-WARE BLUE AND WHITE DECORATED PORCELAIN PLATE. Edo Period. Shallow dish with gracefully scalloped or lobed rim; central medallion depicts two koi fish in dynamic pose ("leaping koi" motif), leaping from a body of water at center against broad rim border. Such plates were made in the kilns at the Arita region of the Hizen province (present-day Saga prefecture). - Diameter: 15.5 inches; height: 2.25 inches.
