ARTIST PROFILE: Born in Le Mans on January 16, 1847, Charles Georges Ferville-Suan was a distinguished French sculptor and a prominent member of the Société des Artistes Français. After being adopted by the painter Charles Suan, he moved to Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts under the tutelage of François Jouffroy, eventually establishing a long-term residence and studio in Montmartre. Throughout his career, which included regular exhibitions at the Salon from 1872 until 1909, Ferville-Suan specialized in creating intricate medallions and statuettes crafted from plaster, marble, and bronze. In 1878, he furthered his artistic ties by marrying the landscape painter Marie Ernestine Lavieille, and his legacy is preserved today through notable works like L'amour captif held in the collections of the Le Mans Museums.
