ARTIST PROFILE: Born in Rome in 1939, Paolo Petrucci developed a dual career as a distinguished filmmaker and a dedicated painter, studying under masters like Andrea Spadini and Mario Mafai at the Art Academy. His professional life was deeply intertwined with the visual arts; from 1968 to 2004, he served as a director and author for RAI, producing acclaimed cultural programs and art documentaries, including his award-winning biography of Lorenzo il Magnifico. Despite his success in the film industry, Petrucci maintained an assiduous painting practice, exhibiting extensively across Italy and the United States from the 1960s through 2017. His artistic significance is cemented by the inclusion of his works in prestigious institutions, such as the Vatican and the Modern Art Gallery in Rome, as well as unique public installations like the giant enlargement of his painting Towards Castel del Monte used during the restoration of the Bitonto cathedral.
