MAYA HEAD OF JAGUAR, CLASSIC PERIOD, 550-900 AD. Moulded and decorated head of a jaguar. Polychromed terracotta. The animalhas its mouth open, its fangs modeled in relief, its ears are alert, and its wide-open eyes seem to scrutinize its prey. The head may have been part of a censer; examples often feature jaguar imagery. Presented on a stand. - height (including stand):. 12.75 inches.
