ARTIST PROFILE: Jian-Xin Xue, born in 1954 in Nanjing, China, is a contemporary artist distinguished for his serene oil paintings that capture the interplay of light and water. After establishing a strong foundation in his native country at Suzhou College and the Nanjing College of Arts—where he also served as a lecturer—Xue moved to the United States in 1988 and earned his Master of Fine Arts from Bard College in New York. His work is characterized by a romantic, impressionistic style influenced by 19th-century masters, focusing heavily on coastal scenes, European canals, and lush garden landscapes. He is particularly renowned for his depictions of the "Venice of the East" in Suzhou and the iconic waterways of Venice, Italy, utilizing a vibrant palette and delicate brushwork to evoke a sense of peaceful nostalgia. Today, his work is exhibited internationally and held in private collections across the globe, reflecting his unique ability to bridge Eastern heritage with Western artistic traditions.
