ARTIST PROFILE: Louines Mentor, born in St. Louis de Sud, Haiti, on November 15, 1936, is a celebrated Haitian painter who began his artistic journey in 1964. He is known for his vibrant, colorful depictions of everyday Haitian life, focusing on street scenes, rural imagery, and religious subjects. Mentor's style is often described as combining narrative warmth with an aesthetic reminiscent of medieval tapestries and stained glass windows. He is considered to have made significant progress in his painting technique, often using oil on canvas or board. His works have been featured in Americas magazine and are held in notable collections, including those of American producer Jonathan Demme and Bryant University.
