COLOMBIAN PRE-COLUMBIAN NARINO DECORATED FOOTED VESSEL. around 800 to 1500 AD. Repeating geometric patterns with zigzags, chevrons, and interlocking diamond shapes. These patterns are often arranged in horizontal bands around the vessel's widest point. The ovoid, or egg-shaped, body with a flaring rim is a classic form found in Narino ceramics. These vessels were often used for storage or as burial urns. The reddish-brown slip and the dark, often black or dark brown, geometric patterns are characteristic of Narino pottery. The technique used to create the design is called "negative resist" or "negative painting," where the background is painted, and the intended design is "left out" in the base color. - height 14.5 inches.
