ENGLISH PINE DOMED OPEN CORNER CUPBOARD, Late 18th/19th century, with butterfly shelves and barrel back. Projecting molded cornice; fluted frieze with center tablet over keystone arch, above two scalloped shelves; two cabinet; doors below on plinth base. - 83 1/2 in. x 42 in. x 21 1/4 in.
Estimate $3,000-4,000

We have changed the attribution to English Pine Domed Open Corner Cupboard. The cupboard remains in good condition with exception of the shelves which have possibly been reshaped over the years. The back could not be fully examined, though a patch was located measuring 14 in. H.

On the upper section, the dentil molding is replaced on the proper right side (5 in.), the proper left side (8 in.) and center (minor intermittent losses). Further examination found a patch on the proper right side (4 in. x 2 in.) and another on the opposing side (9 in. x 2 in.). At either side, the pilasters have replaced molding. The cupboard was once fitted with hinged doors (now missing) and appears today with corresponding patches. The interior retains traces of black paint, and shows separation between the backboards.

On the lower section, the proper left side appears with two patches (larger 4 in. x 4 1/2 in.), while the proper right side has a patch measuring 6 in. x 3 in. An age crack (39 in.) is visible on the proper left and another on the right (23 in.) as well as on the doors. Replaced boards of similar wood appear on the lower plinth base at either side and on the pilaster terminations. The hardware is possibly replaced. The bottom boards of this built-in cupboard are now missing.

Sold for $2,500
