Time and strike spring driven brass movement with bell strike; silk thread suspension, star-form count wheel, white enamel dial with Roman hour markers, gilt engraved and pierced hands; dial signed "Godefroy" "Paris"; large heavy case decorated with urn-form finial, long laurel swags over delicate floral filigree side panels meeting at loop above rectangular glass aperture for viewing pendulum; acanthus leaves and grapes form large finial on lower case; symmetry of cartel case for formal rooms of the period, hung in close proximity to chimney pieces or wall lights; horologer Louis Godefroy (b.1705, d.1784) worked in Paris - 31 1/2 in.
