Sloans & Kenyon is pleased to present Part I of a large collection of the works of the well-known, mid-20th century Washington, DC artist, Gustav Trois (1917-2002). In forthcoming auctions, Sloans & Kenyon will be offering numerous additional works from his atelier. Gustav 'Gus' Trois enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the Washington art world. A native New Yorker, Trois attended the Corcoran School of Art as a young man. He traveled frequently to Europe where he created oils, watercolors and sketches. Trois' work is showcased in the permanent collections of The Smithsonian Institution and Corcoran Gallery of Art. Trois was a founder of the Montgomery County (MD) Art Association, and served as a jurist in numerous Washington area art shows. He won dozens of art awards, including several first prizes in the Washington Watercolor Society shows of the 1970's. Further, Trois wrote about the arts. As an artist whose subject matters and styles varied widely over a long career, from representational to abstract, Trois' distinctive palette has remained recognizable over the decades.
