ERICH HECKEL (German, 1883-1970). Junge Frau, 1949, Limited edition woodcut numbered 419 of an edition of 440. Pencil numbered, signed and dated at base. Framed. Not examined out of frame. ARTIST PROFILE: Heckel was a German painter and printmaker, and a founding member of the group Die Brucke ("The Bridge") which existed 1905-1913. His work was part of the art competitions at the 1928 Summer Olympics and the 1932 Summer Olympics. Like most members of Die Brucke, he was a prolific printmaker: Dube's catalogues raisonné describe with 465 woodcuts, 375 etchings, and 400 lithographs. More than 200 of them, mostly etchings, are from the last seven years of his life. - Image: 18 x 11 inches; frame: 22 x 18 inches. Estimate $300-400
