THREE ARTISTS SIGNED NATIVE AMERICAN POTTERY BOWLS FROM THE PUEBLO PEOPLE OF NEW MEXICO. Each bowl is artist signed: ROSITA DE HERRERA, in San Juan Pueblo, which is now known as Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo; STELLA TANNER (or KWA POVI) (1937-2006); and GREGORITA TRUJILLO (1902-1991), a potter from San Juan Pueblo, New Mexico. Each bowl is a traditional redware and polychrome style bowl.

ARTIST PROFILE: Rosita de Herrera (Born 1940) is a daughter of noted Ohkay Owingeh potter Tomasita Montoya and a sister of noted potter Dominguita Naranjo. Rosita often combines the two distinctive styles of incised and carved designs in her pottery. The two different styles were part of the innovation of her mother and 7 other potters beginning in the 1930s.

ARTIST PROFILE: Stella Tanner (Kwa Povi) and her son Roy (Tsigowanu) began making pottery together in 1976. Stella was a granddaughter of Luteria Atencio, a daughter of Crucita Talalchy and a sister of Mary Gutierrez and Joe Talachy. It was Luteria who taught them both to make pottery.

ARTIST PROFILE: Gregorita Trujillo was a prominent potter during the 1930's Revival period. Working in the red-on-tan pottery style traditional to Okhay Owingeh Pueblo, Gregorita Trujillo became a prominent potter during the "revival period" of San Juan pottery in the 1930s and 40s and continued her work through the late 1970s. She was a gifted traditional teacher and mentored many potters in the "second revival" phase.
