NEPALESE DHYANGRO DRUM WITH A CARVED BIRD HANDLE. The Dhyangro is a frame drum predominantly used in shamanic rituals by the Jhakri (shamans) of Nepal, particularly among the Tamang, Magar, and Kirati people. It is double-headed (with skins on both sides). It is used during healing ceremonies, divinations, and spirit-possession séances to help the shaman enter a trance state (or ecstatic state), communicate with the spirit world, and channel benevolent deities to assist the community or a patient. The drum's sound is considered the vehicle the shaman rides on their spiritual journey.
