ARTIST PROFILE: This modern abstract expressionist painting was the work of Dorothy Hoyt Dillingham (1909-1998), a prominent Ithaca, New York, artist and a pivotal figure in the Ithaca College community. An accomplished academic who earned both her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Cornell University, Dillingham launched her professional career with a solo exhibition in New York City in 1947. Her celebrated portfolio was featured in prestigious global galleries, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, and remained a permanent fixture on the Ithaca College campus. Her technical mastery was widely recognized in the 1950s, during which she earned several high-level honors from the National Association of Women Artists, including the Medal of Honor for Graphics and the Grumbacher Award for Oils, alongside the Jane Peterson and Mary Kelner awards.
