ARTIST PROFILE: Jenny Lyn Smith is a distinguished Alaskan artist and award-winning carver celebrated for her mastery of the totemic tradition in both wood and silver. After arriving in Alaska in 1967, she honed her craft over five years at Alaska Indian Arts in Haines, studying under esteemed mentors including Master Carver Nathan Jackson. Her significant woodcarvings are now held in global collections and featured in prominent public installations, such as the Delta Airlines pavilion in Los Angeles and the Alaska Marine Highway terminal in Seattle. Renowned for her Northwest Indian style silver jewelry, Smith creates original designs that honor Alaska Native traditions, a commitment reflected in her 1977 adoption into the Tlingit Raven clan. Though a prolific artist who produced much of her work from her home in Haines, she now balances her creative legacy with seasonal pursuits like quilting and golfing in the Valley of the Eagles.
