ARTIST PROFILE: Joseph Craig English is a Virginia Commonwealth University-trained painter and printmaker whose vibrant, colorful work has captivated collectors and institutions for over five decades. Sparked by a ninth-grade introduction to silkscreen printing, English built a career rooted in bold artistic passion, working in oil, acrylic, and printmaking from his long-time studio in Washington Grove, Maryland, before recently relocating to a new studio in Frederick, Maryland. Since 1972, he has brought his work directly to the public through arts festivals nationwide, his website, and custom commissions for interior designers and architects. Ever the innovator, he transitioned in 2019 to digital techniques using Photoshop and wide-format printing — preserving his signature style while eliminating exposure to toxic materials. His award-winning work is held in prestigious permanent collections including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Taubman Museum of Art.
