WORLD WAR I/II SETH THOMAS/KELVIN & WHITE CO. ZIG ZAG CLOCK. Ebonized case with glazed door panel, opening to clock works and period wiring. Inside of door panel having an instructional chart. Not tested for functionality. A replacement key is present. These clocks were used to combat German U-boats during World War I and II. Seth Thomas made the movements and Kelvin-White Co. set them in boxes, modifying the hands of the dial so they would touch metal dial markers to complete a circuit which would make the bell ring. The convoy would set the time and the intervals between course changes which would be transferred to these clocks. When the bells rang, the course of the ship would then be adjusted. - 15 11/16" high x 7 3/8" wide x 4 3/4" deep. Estimate $75-100
Wear associated with age. Wiring appears to be intact and original. Clock does function when the hands are advanced, but not tested beyond that. A later key is present.
