Presented as a wedding gift in 1808 to Robert Anderson, Jr. and wife Maria Thomas from the bride's father, Capt. Thomas. The bed was constructed using mahogany from a plantation owned by Capt. Thomas, then shipped to Charleston and hauled by wagon to Westville, the Anderson Plantation. Robert Anderson, Jr. is the son of Lt. Col. Robert Anderson, Sr. (1741-1813), who served in the American Revolutionary War under his friend and neighboring plantation owner General Andrew Pickens.
