PROVENANCE: By family descent to present owner from his grandmother Virginia Swope Brinckerhoff, New York, who received the work from her husband, Frank Brinckerhoff, New York, who inherited it from his uncle Edwin Baldwin, New York. Edwin Baldwin (circa 1855-1925), an attorney who carved out his practice in Manhattan, was an art collector who was associated with Barbizon School painters in Paris, including Leon Richet.
