THE NASBY LETTERS: BEING THE ORIGINAL NASBY LETTERS AS WRITTEN DURING HIS LIFETIME. David Ross Locke, 1893, The Toledo Blade, Hardcover, first edition, cover partially detached, light wear to the book, printed on cheap paper, octavo. This book is a posthumous compilation of Locke's works, writing as Petroleum V. Nasby, of 19th century political humor. Lincoln found much relaxation and enjoyment in Nasby's commentary. Satirist Locke, whose pen name was Petroleum V. Nasby, was a great favorite of Lincoln who quoted him frequently. Lincoln is reported to have said, "I intend to tell him if he will communicate his talent to me, I will swap places with him!"
Accompanied by a contemporary reprint, originally published 1864, quarto, hard-cover, no jacket, 72-pages.
