ARTIST PROFILE: Christel Minotti (Finnish-American, b. Finland) is a painter working in oil, acrylic, and mixed media, known for vibrant, color-driven canvases spanning landscape, still life, and abstraction. Born and raised in Helsinki, Minotti left Finland at age 18 to study art in the United States, attending Furman University on scholarship before transferring to Clemson University, where she earned a degree in French and art with a minor in education and taught art and French at the high school level for several years. After relocating to Atlanta in the early 1970s, she made the decision to devote herself fully to painting, developing her practice within a shared studio community of fellow artists. Based in her Atlanta, Georgia studio, her work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Washington, D.C. and the Southeastern United States, including shows in Nashville, Tennessee, as well as at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville, Georgia. Her paintings, praised by Anne Irwin Fine Art as appearing "effortless" and possessing "a strong presence" even in smaller formats, have been featured in Southern Living Idea Houses and Atlanta Magazine. Minotti's work explores the relationships between color and shape, favoring simplified imagery that clarifies form and intensifies color, an approach she traces to a Finnish childhood shaped by both modernist design and a nature-centered mysticism. Her paintings are held in private collections throughout the United States.
