VENETIAN SCHOOL (18th century). West View of the Doge's Palace and the Molo, Oil on canvas painting, likely from the mid-18th century, depicting the area around the Doge's Palace and the Molo, which is near the Piazza San Marco and the San Marco basin in Venice. The view is likely looking west from the San Marco basin. The painting captures a view of the Doge's Palace on the right, with its distinctive Gothic architecture and the Molo extending along the waterfront. Several gondolas and boats are visible on the water, and figures are depicted along the Molo and near the palace, adding a sense of life and activity to the scene. The style and subject matter align with the works of artists such as Francesco Guardi, Canaletto, and/or Jacopo Fabris who were known for their "vedute," or views, of Venice. Such paintings often feature a lively and atmospheric depiction of the city marked by the use of light, color, and movement to create a sense of dynamism and drama. Unframed. - Unframed, 21 1/2 in. x 38 1/2 in.
