ARTIST PROFILE: Lloyd William Wulf (1913–1965) was a Nebraska-born artist who became a significant figure in the art scene of Quito, Ecuador, where he lived and worked for over twenty years. After studying at the San Francisco School of Fine Arts in the early 1930s—where he met his wife, Helen Purdy—Wulf gained early experience creating carnival-themed works and contributing to Works Progress Administration projects. Upon moving to Quito, he balanced his artistic practice with roles as a teacher at the American School and an employee of the American Embassy, notably mentoring students such as Oswaldo Viteri. Though he returned to Nebraska in 1964 due to failing health and passed away shortly after at age 52, his artistic legacy is preserved in prestigious institutions like the National Gallery of Art and the Spencer Museum of Art.
